A type of so-called perpetual derivative contracts tied to equities got the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission’s green light to start trading.
CFTC Chairman Michael Selig said in a statement Tuesday that the perpetual futures contracts would be treated as security futures, subject to both CFTC and Securities and Exchange Commission regulation. Within hours, however, an industry group sued to challenging the decision.
