Australia’s core inflation accelerated in the three months through September, strengthening the case for the Reserve Bank to raise interest rates to try to rein in price pressures.
The annual trimmed mean gauge of consumer prices advanced 3.7% last quarter, faster than in the previous three months and also surpassing economists’ estimate of 3.6%, Australian Bureau of Statistics data showed Wednesday. On a quarterly basis, core prices rose 1%, matching forecasts.
