General Motors Co. plans to produce hybrid sport utility vehicles at a plant in Michigan, part of a push to offer more gas-electric models that have sold more briskly as gasoline prices soared this year.
The Detroit-based automaker said in a statement that it will prepare a plant in Lansing to produce hybrids in the future. The work will be included in more than $2 billion that GM plans to spend on its operations near the state’s capital over the next several years.
